My Review: Lexmod Taiji Outdoor Wicker Patio Daybed Ottoman In Espresso With Turquoise Cushions
As I realized a few days ago that I haven’t reviewed any daybed on my blog, I decided that in my next post I had to talk about one of these really special items.
So I chose the LexMod Taiji Outdoor Wicker Patio Daybed Ottoman In Espresso With Turquoise Cushions, which is one of the best daybeds I tried (you’ll see below that this isn’t really a praise…). I also noticed that it’s a pretty popular product, when it comes to daybeds I mean. 😛
I haven’t used any other product from LexMod, so I kind of made an opinion about them through this product. And unfortunately I can’t say that I’m extremely satisfied or that I can totally recommend you this company.
But I will tell you more about my opinion a few lines below, for now let me show you some general things about this daybed. 🙂
Product name: Taiji Outdoor Wicker Patio Daybed with Ottoman in Espresso with Turquoise Cushions
Price: $1,099.70 (At the time I published this article)
Cheapest place to buy: AMAZON
My rating: 6.80 /10
Worth buying?: Not Really
So as I told you before, I can’t really say that I’m very satisfied with this daybed or that I couldn’t have bought a better product. However, compared to other daybeds I’ve tried, it’s not that bad. I’m not a fan of daybeds simply because most of the have a really low quality and a really huge price.
So I guess you can imagine now why I haven’t written a lot of articles about daybeds so far…and I won’t even write too many in the future either. 😛
Anyway, let me show you my personal Pros and Cons.
What I Liked About It
- The color is absolutely gorgeous, I chose turquoise because I thought it would look very exotic and so it does. I feel like in a tropical destination every time I see it
- It’s a 3-in-1 item: you can use it as a sofa (the large part), as an ottoman (the smaller part) or you can place together these 2 pieces and use it as a daybed. I usually preferred to keep it as a daybed outside, because that’s what I bought it for, but it would also look good as a sofa or as an ottoman
- It’s made of rattan, which is a very popular fabric this year
- It feels really soft and comfortable, nothing to say about it
- The product was almost ready-assembled: I received it in 2 boxes, one containing the sofa part and the other one containing the smaller part and the cushions. So I didn’t have to put them together or anything of this type
- Compared to other daybeds (especially the ones I found in some shops from my area), its price isn’t even expensive, I would actually say it’s rather cheap
- The ship it for free in the US
What I Didn’t Like About It
- The fabric fades easily, especially the cushions. I think mine lost their turquoise color after about 6 months in the sun. And I haven’t found others available for sale on Amazon
- They don’t offer any cover for the daybed, even though it loses color after a few months outside
- I’m not satisfied with the quality, as the rattan fabric started to break in certain part after less than a year
- So for $1000, I believe it should last longer than 12 months and in better conditions
And now, let’s start the review
As I said before, if I were to judge this company based on the opinion I made about this daybed, I would probably not buy from them again. The item isn’t bad at all, at least compared to other outdoor daybeds, that have a much higher price but a similar quality.
But I would probably not pay $1000 again on any daybed, simply because all the ones I tried disappointed me sooner or later. And this LexMod daybed makes no exception, but I think it took it a bit longer to disappoint me. Do you get my point now? 🙂
Anyway, I admit there are also some nice things about it, and I will begin with these.
Sofa, Ottoman And Daybed – All 3 In 1
I have to begin by praising the producer for the great way in which they designed this item. This design would almost make me not regret paying so much money for it… 😛
Although on the official site it’s stated as a daybed, I noticed that you can easily use this item in 2 other ways: ottoman, which is the smaller part, and sofa, the larger part. I know there wasn’t any need of this last explanation because you can probably notice very well which is the ottoman and which is the sofa, but…just trying to be sure. 🙂
Of course that by putting these 2 pieces together you get the long-desired daybed, which is actually really simply to get. I mean, you don’t have to tie to sofa and the ottoman together.
It’s enough to just place them one near the other and you’ll have the daybed. Sounds really simple, doesn’t it? Well, it’s pretty simple when it comes to this. 🙂
So I really love this versatile feature; it’s probably the best thing about this daybed. You can always change it: I usually keep it as a daybed, but many times I take the ottoman inside and lay comfortable on it when I watch TV.
Or other times I take the sofa close to the small swimming pool that I recently got. The pieces are pretty light for their appearance, and even though I didn’t personally carry them around, I don’t think it would be impossible for me to do it. Just kidding. They’re still too heavy for a woman to lift them alone. 😛
I Love The Turquoise Color That I Chose…
When I was looking at the daybeds available online, I knew I wanted a bright, exotic color and not a boring white…
I didn’t exactly decide on one, but I knew I wanted a really strong shade. So after coming across this item from LexMod, which do you think that the first color that caught my attention?
Obviously that turquoise… 😉
And I really love it, even now. I initially thought about the red or the orange version, but I couldn’t take my mind off the turquoise one. So I decide to get it, and I definitely don’t regret it.
In comparison to the orange or red one, the turquoise shade makes it feel more exotic. I sometimes have the feeling that I’m in Bahamas in holiday when I see it there in my backyard.
Plus that I have a swimming pool close to the place where it usually stays, so you can imagine that I feel in holiday right in my backyard. 🙂
So if you want to get this daybed and you’re thinking about a color, I definitely recommend you turquoise. It’s true that your backyard isn’t exactly as mine and you may have other preferences when it comes to colors, but I really can’t imagine a color for this daybed that looks better than turquoise. My opinion…
…But It Faded Away Completely In 6 Months
That was a big disappointment for me…
Though I had read a lot of reviews and many people complained about this, I thought their fabric must have faded because they have chosen the red one. And that would normally fade faster…
So I thought they didn’t even care too much about the daybed, they probably let it out in the rain, they never cleaned it up and stuff like that. That’s why I wasn’t very surprised to hear the color faded. And I was convinced mine wouldn’t, as I would take proper care of it…
But I was so wrong. 🙁
I can’t say I always kept the daybed in the sun, because I would sometimes bring the ottoman inside or move the sofa in the middle of the backyard. So somehow the sofa stayed more in the sun than the ottoman, which means that the larger part should have faded easier than the ottoman.
But there wasn’t much difference actually. The cushions were the first ones to fade, that’s true. They faded about 3 months let’s say…I mean after 3 months you could see a difference between the rest of the fabric and the cushions.
But after 2 months the fabric had also faded away, so there wasn’t a very big difference. Besides, the ottoman had also faded enough, even though it wasn’t non-stop in the sun, just half of the time. So I don’t know what to say about it…
You can imagine that I was extremely disappointed, because I really loved this daybed and it was perfect for my backyard. And I somehow regret not keeping it in a covered place, like on my patio, or taking it away when it was very hot outside. But it’s too late now…
So the only advice I can give you is to protect the fabric from the sun, no matter what color it has. I thought turquoise would fade much harder, but this wasn’t true. Therefore, if you can, keep the daybed in the shade as much as possible. You’ll see a difference, believe me. 😉
The Rattan Fabric Looks Really Exotic…But It’s Really Bad
I talked about the growing popularity of rattan and wicker in one of my previous posts, and I also said how much I like these 2 similar fabrics.
It’s not only that they look natural and simple, but they are also extremely exotic. They make me think about the bamboo forests I used to see in geographic magazines when I was little. I always wanted to visit one! So you can imagine that I absolutely love these fabrics.
However, it’s not everything so good… 🙁
Although I absolutely adored the fabric in the first months, after about 7-8 months I noticed that in certain parts, it started to fall apart.
This wasn’t very visible at first, and I tried not to pull it because it would have become worse. At that point, there were only some woven parts that got broken, but a few weeks later the wicker started felling apart really bad in some parts.
And the problem was that there wasn’t too much to do about it. I tried adding some special glue and I managed to make it look slightly better, but you could still see it was broken. That happened after about 10 months. So it didn’t even last in good conditions for a full year.
A month later, which is 11 months after buying it, I decided to give it away because there was absolutely no way I could make it look decent anymore.
And that’s how my exotic daybed turned into a completely fallen apart furniture piece… 🙁
For This Price, It’s Actually Cheap…How’s That?
Yeah, you read the title well…compared to other daybed, $1,000 is actually a really low price.
Believe me, I saw a lot of daybeds in all the furniture shops from my area. Initially I wanted to buy one from there, but after seeing the prices they had, I preferred to remain daybed-less than to spend so much money.
Without exaggerating, I think the cheapest daybed I found there was around $2,800. And this was actually the worst-looking one, it didn’t have a cover and it was much smaller than the rest. The quality may have been decent, I don’t know…but seriously, I would have never paid so much for it!
Maybe only if I was a billionaire, which I am not for now. 😛
So compared to those ones, this daybed from LexMod is really cheap. Its price is less than half, it looks much better (honestly) and it is also a 3-in-1 item. It has enough downsides but I don’t want to talk about this right now, as I’m focusing on the price thing.
So it remains the cheapest daybed I found until now. $1,000 may seem a very high price, and it really is so, but if we compare it with the price of other daybed, it immediately looks better. 😀
That’s why I’m not a huge fan of daybeds and I didn’t talk too much about them so far. All of the are extremely expensive and their quality is much lower than you would expect, at this price.
So this piece from LexMod has the best price I found, but you’ve seen what I think about its quality….
My Final Verdict – Worth Paying $1,000 For It?
Before I end this review, I want to sum up my opinion about thi LexMod daybed: it’s a gorgeous piece with a high level of comfort and a pretty good price (for a daybed) , but with a very poor quality and fabric.
Considering that mine lasted less than a year and that it deteriorated in a really bad way, I wouldn’t recommend it even if it cost $500.
So I don’t believe it’s worth buying it, because paying $1,000 for an item that lasts less than a year isn’t the best thing you can do.
And that’s available even more for many other daybeds, that I haven’t reviewed. Honestly, I haven’t found (or heard) about any daybed that lasts well for several years or that people praise. All of them all made in a very bad way, they last really little and to make matters worse…they cost enormously.
However, if you plan to place this daybed in a covered place or on your patio, then it may be a much better investment. It gets damaged because of the sun, so keeping it in a covered place would solve all the problems. That would be the only situation in which I would recommend it.
So what can you do if you want an daybed for outside, not for a covered place?
Well, if you still want a daybed, my recommendation is to get a different one.
There are 2 kinds of daybeds: inside or outside ones.
If outside daybeds really suck, inside ones are much better, or I should rather say that I found a few that are much better (not all :P). Besides, they also have much more advantages like a longer durability, a much lower price and a really wide range of options to choose from.
And you can even take the outside, if you chose a piece that can blend a garden decor. 🙂
So that’s my recommendation: instead of spending thousands of dollars on outdoor daybeds that last less than a year, get an inside daybed instead, for less money and more years!
Now tell me, what do you think about the Lexmod Taiji Outdoor Wicker Patio Daybed Ottoman In Espresso With Turquoise Cushions?
Would you buy this daybed? Or you would choose an indoor one instead, for a much better price?
