Folding Furniture For Small Spaces – 4 Reasons Why You Should Choose It

Hello everyone!

I’m sure it’s not the first time you hear about it, but in this post I want to give you 4 really good reasons why you should get folding furniture in your small spaces.

Personally, for me things that can fold don’t sound too interesting… Every time I hear about something that folds, it makes me think about a pretty low-quality item whose only purpose is that it can fold. Yeah, it doesn’t make any sense, I know…

That’s exactly my opinion about things that fold, that they don’t make any sense. Or maybe I should rather say “that WAS my opinion about them”, because meanwhile I found some situations in which folding stuff would be perfect.

And smaller rooms are definitely one of those situations.

So I won’t make it any longer. In the following lines I will try to convince you why it’s good to use folding furniture when you have a pretty small space available. Because it does make a difference in this case, believe me. 😉

Folding Furniture For Small Spaces - 4 Reasons Why You Should Choose It

1. Obviously, it can save you some space sometimes

You would have never expected this reason, would you? I guess it’s the last thing you thought I would say. Just kidding 😛

I’m sure everyone reading this post is considering folding furniture because they have a problem with space, right?

Folding Furniture For Small Spaces - 4 Reasons Why You Should Choose ItWell, that’s actually the case. Items that fold can sometimes be of a great use in a small room, as they manage to bring in some extra space when folding. You can use them when you need them and keep the folded the rest of the time.

And that extra space can prove to be crucial, I tell you this from my own experience.

I remember having a really small kitchen about 6 years ago, when I moved in my first apartment. There was absolutely no way I could bring some real counters and a kitchen table all together, so I had to give up one of these.

However, I was inspired enough to go for a folding table and even though I didn’t like it at all (its design I mean), it turned out to be of great use. Otherwise, my small kitchen would have never allowed me to have some counters and a table in it. Never ever.

So, even though it sounds like a childish advice, I know, folding furniture pieces can make miracles in a small room where any extra inches are more than welcome. I’ve experienced it myself, that’s why I’m telling you. 🙂

2. You Get A Completely New Decor In A Few Seconds

If you thought that folding furniture is only good for saving space, well…you weren’t completely right. 😀

In a small room, one of the most common problems is that it’s incredibly hard to change anything. This happens because, as it’s a narrow space, it’s very easy to notice every object in a few seconds. So as a visitor, even though you may not be aware of it, you actually “memorize” the whole decor of the room.

Anyway, a different decor would be just the thing a small room needs. And it’s not like you should change your furniture pieces daily, that would be absurd. There is a much easier alternative: folding furniture.

What folding furniture does in a very small space is that it manages to transform it in just a few seconds. This kind of room wouldn’t even need a major transformation, a little one would be enough to give it a fresh air.

So fold one chair, and then unfold it. It may not be visible in a large living room, but in a small room it will definitely make a difference. What do you think?

Try to unfold your table, and they fold it back again. Isn’t the decor totally different? It may not be in reality, but that’s how it seems.

A great advantage of folding furniture pieces is that they don’t have sophisticated features, that belong to a certain style. They are actually created to suit a lot of different decors, which means that you could use this kind of pieces in any room, no matter if it’s Bohemian or Victorian.

Therefore, folding furniture can change a lot in a small space, and it can bring you a totally new design in just a matter of seconds. An extra reason to try it, right? 😀

3. Folding items are trending right now

I’m sure you’ve heard of Minimalism, haven’t you? And I’m also pretty sure you know what it’s about.

Well, as Minimalism is one of the decorating styles of our century, everything that belongs to it will become a trend itself, that’s how things go in Interior Design. And right now, it’s the turn of folding furniture.

Minimalist style suggest keeping only the essentials, the fewer objects the better. And what could be better than a folding chair, that can go away in just a few seconds?

Folding furniture it’s more and more popular in apartments and smaller rooms, and one of the reasons is that a lot of people go for Minimalism in their homes. This style is the perfect choice for small spaces, because it enlarges the rooms by keeping only the essentials. So it sounds just like what this kind of room needs, right?

Anyway, folding furniture is an actual trend and it doesn’t seem to be going away too soon. Besides, it’s a Minimalist characteristic so it will make any room look more spacious, which means it’s an element you should keep in mind. 🙂

4. It’s Extremely Light

That’s something you may not be completely aware of, am I right?

It may even sound a bit surprising, but folding furniture pieces are actually very easy to carry around, thanks to the light material they’re made of.

You can imagine that folding a heavy chair, made of authentic wood wouldn’t be a very easy job, right? Well, that’s exactly how the producers think too. For this reason, you will never find a folding item made of a really heavy fabric.

Instead, most are made from materials that don’t weight too much and that can be moved and carried around easily. So what does this mean when it comes to a small space?

It means that folding items are really versatile and they can be placed wherever you want. You can add the folding stool in the left corner today, move it in the middle tomorrow and fold it in the right corner the next day. The light weight will definitely help you move the items wherever you want, whenever you want.

So don’t forget, folding furniture pieces means light furniture pieces. That could also come in handy if you’re not exactly a big person. 😛

So, What Do You Think About Folding Furniture Now?

Those were my 4 reasons why I recommend folding furniture items in smaller space. I don’t know if you agree with them or if they managed to convince you about the utility of folding pieces, but I still see them as some pretty useful tips.

Everyone know that folding furniture is a space saver, but not everyone is aware that it’s extremely modern and light. Besides, it give you the possibility to change your decor in just a few seconds. That’s not a secret anymore. 😀

Hi Anne, this’s a relatively easy read, kind of reminding me to get back the common senses on why I will choose folding furniture. However, personally, I would prefer space saving furniture that is not only limited to foldability, but also expandability as well as convertibility. Those furniture will make more sense in design and make space saving more effortless; it won’t require users to hand-carry in order to fold it up. Cheers~

Hey there, thanks for letting me know your opinion.

Yeah, folding furniture is not the right choice for everyone, so it’s totally fine to prefer something else for space saving.

Personally, I can’t say folding furniture is the #1 thing I would choose for a small space (as there are a lot of tips and trick to enlarge a room in other ways) but I see it as a good solution in some cases. And if a person likes folding furniture, then I usually recommend it as a “lack of space” solution.

Thanks for reading my post 🙂

When I usually thought of folding furniture, the image that came to my mind is cheap plastic or tin chairs that fold over and that you keep in the garage. But man, those pictures you got of those folding stuff are of some really fashionable and well designed tables and chairs!

    • Anne says:

Yeah, I know many people that have a similar opinion about folding furniture. That’s because some years ago, folding pieces were something like you described them, cheap items worth keeping in the garage.

But things have chaged a lot now.

There has been a great progress of folding furniture, and the pieces from these days look totally different of those ones from 10 years ago. So now this kind of furniture is really worth considering, especially in small rooms. 🙂
