5 Of The Latest Trends In Kitchen Countertops
Properly decorating is no longer an easy thing. There are more and more aspects you have to consider, and it would be impossible to talk about all of them in one post. So today I chose kitchen furniture. 🙂
And the topic I want to discuss in this post are the latest trends in kitchen countertops.
I’m sure you’ve heard that X is popular this year and Y stopped trending these months, but all this trending rules seem so complicated (at least to me) that you don’t know anymore what you should listen and what you should skip.
So in this post I will only show you the essential trends, that have been popular for a pretty long time and that seem to stay in fashion, at least for the next 2 years.
1. Granite Fabrics
I talked a lot of times about countertops made of granite, as this fabric remains one of people’s favorites when it comes to kitchen furniture. Granite has a very glamorous look, and it can change a kitchen immediately, thanks to its elegance.
The main reason why granite countertops are trending is probably their gorgeous aspect combined with the affordable price they have. I recently ordered some granite tiles for a client, and they were about $60 per square.
It’s true that it was rather an average pattern when it comes to beauty, but this price seemed pretty good to me.
So granite fabrics remain one of the most popular options for countertops, and they don’t seem to be going away too soon.
2. Earthy Shades
When it comes to colors, this was definitely the year of earthy shades in kitchen. Brown, beige, walnut, dark green, all of these colors that remind of soil and nature were so popular in the last months.
I’ve actually seen that a lot of companies started to produce a wider range of countertops of these colors. If they only had 5 kinds of brown before, now there have 10 or 15 different shades, all in a different pattern.
So these signs tell me that earthy shades will remain the #1 choice in countertops colors in the next 2-3 years. Maybe even longer, but in the next 2 years for sure. Therefore, if you haven’t found a suitable color for your countertops yet, you should seriously consider earthy shades.
3. Stainless Steel
This is another uncommon fabric that has gained a lot of popularity in the last years.
I have to admit that I don’t really like stainless steel. In fact, I don’t like it at all. It gives me the feeling that the kitchen isn’t a kitchen anymore, that it transforms it into a work area. And for me, kitchen will never be just a work area, but a place where the family can enjoy meals and spend quality time.
However, there are many people who go for stainless steel for their countertops. The reason is quite obvious, as you can see it in the name of the fabric. Stainless steel doesn’t stain, it’s extremely easy to clean up and maintain, and it doesn’t have a huge price either.
The downside is the “ugly” look that it give to a kitchen, but for some people this isn’t as important as having a practical kitchen. So if you’re not too interested in the looks of your kitchen, stainless steel is probably the best choice for you.
4. Polished Surfaces
No matter what fabric you choose for the countertops, it has to be polished. At least that’s what magazines and top Interior designers say. And as polished surfaces are really trending this year, why wouldn’t you use them in the kitchen too?
The great thing about polished surfaces is that you don’t need a certain fabric. Marble, steel, granite and many others have all a polished aspect.
And as many of these fabrics are already trending themselves, you already have 2 fashionable elements in your countertops: the fabric and the polished surface.
5. Marble Tops
The last popular fabric I want to show you is marble. And coincidence or not, it’s also my favorite material when it comes to kitchen countertops.
The word that describes marble the best is “elegance”. Unlike granite, that it also elegant and beautiful, marble reminds more of palaces or very luxurious rooms. In other words, it is the peak of elegant kitchen fabrics.
Obviously, the price matches it gorgeous look, so this is probably the biggest drawback of this fabric. But for the ones who want a unique kitchen and can afford it, I really recommend you to try marble as a countertop fabric.
If you’re interested in following the latest trends in kitchen countertops, when it comes to fabrics, I recommend you to choose between those 3: granite, marble and stainless steel.
Granite and marble have their own natural beauty and elegance, while stainless steel is the easiest to maintain of all fabrics. They are all polished, so they win another extra points for this.
In colors, earthy shades remain by far the most popular from their category. They resemble nature and ground, and as organic stuff is really in fashion right now, earthy shades couldn’t miss.
So these are 5 of the latest trends in kitchen countertops. In my opinion they are pretty easy to follow and they don’t all need a very high budget, which means that you can now have a modern kitchen without paying thousands of dollars. And that is definitely a progress.
Now tell me, do you like to follow the trends in your kitchen? Or you prefer to keep the classic appearance?
